That's exact what I did. I have halogen without DRL. I'd rather switch it off completely as there is no point turning on all the lights in a sunny day. Or you could consider buying the bimmercode app to only enable the sidelights on as DRL. But the sidelights won't be in the full brightness. So there is no point having a half dying tea light in front of your car, cos other cars won't see your light anyway.
