Thanks for the replies, much appreciated! I actually managed to jack the rear of the car up briefly (just long enough to slip the stands underneath the left and right jacking points) using the rear differential and being careful not to lift by the cover. This was possible on my E90 and proves to be true on the F25 as well. Not sure of long term effects but my E90 never seemed to have any issues over the 10 years I owned it.
