It's not the smoothest I've driven - The smoothest I think still goes to the VAG EA888 engine, found on a lot of vehicles incl. Golf GTI/R, Tiguan, Porsche Macan. That is a very good engine, and I wished BMW made one like that. In the latest EA888 Gen3 they added dual injection (multi-point + direct) which will solve the carbon buildup issue. But this a BMW forum... so I'm going to stop here
