European Audi Q5's have had a notorious reputation for Panoramic roof rattles over the last 2 or 3 years - so much so that some dealerships have even resorted to offering a separate Pano roof servicing schedule.
I strongly suspect that the BMW problem is a similar one, where many of the internal mechanical components simply need re-greasing on a regular basis (and perhaps more often if you live in a warmer / sunnier climate). Aware of several cases where the entire Pano roof units has been completely removed and replaced under warranty, (on this side of the pond at least), I'm afraid there doesn't appear to be a universal long-term solution yet available.
