So it's my partners x3 2.0d 2006. So couple weeks ago i drove her car and it felt very sluggish and slow, took longer than usual to pick up speed let's say in 5th gear doing 50 mph normally I'd wait but dropped to 4th to speed up quicker. A few days later I get a call from her saying it won't accelerate and says like air rushing into a tin can (her words not mine) so as of now the car will not accelerate past 40 mph only if going down hill. Sometimes the revs will go up to 4k but mostly struggle to hit 3k in neutral (limp mode) no error codes are coming up. One code did come up originally when it first started playing up was throttle position circuit - open. So I changed the tps was a 2nd one that I see working in another car but still nothing. I cleared the codes put her tps back in and no codes have come back since. But I've tried everything, negative terminal on battery off, tried reseting the throttle position with the ignition trick.

I'm 80% sure it's not a split hose. No smoke so guessing it can't be the turbo

Any ideas? Money is always short so trying things myself before I have to take to a garage where I'm very certain they will just replace **** until they find the culprit
