This is interesting news. I am shopping the X3M now. I am currently driving a G05 X5 with ID7 and I really like it. My wife has an X3 M40i with ID6 and it definitely has big differences.
I have seen new a X3 M40i with ID7 and was hoping to get the same with an X3M order.
Now I may delay my order until there is definitive news on ID7.
Albeit, there is nothing wrong with ID6 but I just prefer the newer interface since that's what I am used to.
