"BMW says six in 10 new X3s will be sold as M Sport models, with bold 19-inch alloys, M-specific body styling and, inside, a lovely set of M Sport leather seats. The most popular engine by far will be the xDrive20d, with 80 percent of sales; the xDrive30d that we drove will take 15 percent of sales, leaving the M40i and upcoming xDrive20i petrols to fight over the remaining 5 percent." - Motoring Research (UK)
Hmm, I wonder what the expectation of M40i sales are in the US vs the 30i? I thought a lot more would opt for the M40i but perhaps I'm off.
