I had trouble with this too. I finally figured it out when I broke down the process in my head. No matter what garage door you have, the car needs to "learn" the remote, this will include frequency and codes. To do that, you have to pick a Homelink button and follow the steps to add a remote to that button. If you have a singe code garage door, you're done. With rolling codes, the garage door opener now needs to "learn" the car remote. This will be a process your garage door opener will have set up, but typically some form of press a "learn" button on the garage door opener, then press the assigned Homelink button (maybe a few times), they will sync and the garage door will move (open or close, depending).
