There seems to be a lot of confusion over this from BMW, dealers and customers. I'm not convinced that anybody really knows what is going on. Some are suggesting that this will be done OTA, and others are saying that a dealer visit will be needed to enable the wi-fi. I feel fortunate that I am not affected.
One person has suggested a rollout on 19th May. However, in post #66, a UK resident has been told by their dealer that the rollout will start at the end of June / early July.
In the UK alone, BMW sells an average of 10k vehicles per month through 150 dealers. That's about 70 vehicles per dealer. 6P1 has been discussed since before Xmas. If a dealer update is required, each dealer may have to update 300+ vehicles (assuming this affects the whole range of vehicles). That is in addition to their normal workload. I'm not convinced this will be completed this month! |
