So.. I originally posted this over a year ago. I've taken the time to be careful and watch. I am still careful to turn the car off before I open the door.

What I think the real problem may be is that I don't actually turn the car off. The engine shuts off in Eco/Comfort/Automatic by itself; but that is "ready state", not "off", but it can feel like off because.. well, the engine is not running.

I have never found the lights on when I have been sure to shut the car off.

If I happen to open the door before shutting car off, I shut the door, start the car, turn off the car, then open the door.

So.. it could be a sequence thing, or it could be that occasionally I forget to stop the car.
