And I'm gonna go on the record, we DON'T want plastic buttons on top of the shift knob. I had an old Volvo stick shift that had a fifth gear button on it and it failed. Sometimes fifth gear would not engage once you pressed the button, not acceptable. Also if you rest your hand on it as I'm used to doing you may unknowingly engage something that you don't want and that could cause an accident, not good. Less is more!

They are better positioned on the new M5 as they are within easy reach to set.
Now that you can do it without taking your eyes from the view of the road.
You either use the steering wheel paddles or shift down and across to D, which is more favourable against traffic when leaving and entering Munich.
The quality is quite superb with a nice damping motion on the press.
