So i picked up a 2024 m440i with 44k on it. It looks great, but it has the spider web looking swirls in the clear, not bad, but they are there. The front has a bit of road debris thats nicked the paint. Its not so bad that its obvious unless you get down and inspect. The hood has a couple tiny dots that have been hit with touch up but not great, as you can tell it.

I know its really too late for ppf unless you go and get all that fixed, but i prefer to spend money on performance mods, so expensive paint repairs are prob not gonna happen.

I thought about doing ppf but read that it all needs to be repaired and painted first.

How many of you are not running any sort of PPF? How does your vehicle look? Any tips or tricks to keep it looking good for those who go non ppf.

Also, for light clear coat spider web rings, what would be the best process for that? Otherwise the paint looks great really.

Oh, and some parts of the car have like tiny copperish colored parts kind of stuck in the clear. I tried clay, and it would get some but it would take a lot of work. Is there a product that gets rid of all of that?

This includes wash, clay, 2-Step correction to get rid of the swirls and minor scratches from the nasty winter we had. Then finally do a ceramic coating. But of course the nasty green dust has started to coat everything in sight as well as trigger allergies. Should I wait to do this once the trees and grasses have finally stopped pushing out pollen or is it OK to do the coating since it gets mostly wiped off once it sets up? I don't have a garage so its gonna be outside. Helpful tips appreciated.

The paint chip looks normal. It was the snag on the microfiber wash mitt that told me this was not the typical chip. I verified that it is not paint, i.e. a sharp leftover edge. My iPhone did a decent job confirming this.

So, what do I do? I don't want tap the shard flat - that will leave an odd blemish - after touchup - at best; a good spot for rust to form, at worst. Part of me wants to get out the Dremel and that fine-pointed stone and (gulp) grind that burr away. The other part of me keeps saying, "Dude, this is a 2023 BMW and you are not that good."
Thoughts?
My tires are only 10 months old, and I notice the sidewalls are aren’t jet black like they were when new. I only noticed this recently when I started using a “wet” tire dressing. Is there a correlation? I know all tires will eventually get some brown color due to UV exposure, but could the tire dressing possibly be accelerating the browning effect? It just seems more than I expect for 10 month old tires.

Hi all, looking for your suggestions on BEST PPF installer in CT or surrounding. Ideally NOT NY/NJ as the drive there is awful.

I am VERY PARTICULAR. Looking for a reliable and timely shop to do a FULL PPF job. Key points as follows:

1. I don’t want your suggestion for shops you’ve used that “ask for a review” and have people supporting them just because they “do their best.” I’m NOT looking for “buddy” referrals or because “they were nice”.

2. I want genuine very particular shops that aren’t say, doing dirty work, in the same room as they do PPF.

3. PPF work must be thorough. Remove things such as certain emblems or say fender emblems to do proper full coverage PPF.( the more seams the more likelihood of lifting/failure. *Yes I will provide replacement emblems that are stuck on vs clip on.

4. If custom cutting difficult bends/curvatures, straight seams, not ragged. Of course I’m also looking for “fold over edges”.

I understand PPF is not a “perfect” art. There will be the occasional lifting/failures especially on the small ledges or high impact areas, but again. I want COMPLETE coverage and if they are warrantied and reliable they can assess in proper time.

Please understand, I don’t want your average detail shop that “does PPF” to the average guys standard. I personally install PPF on my daily drivers myself so I understand what I’m looking for vs what is possible. Yes a full car is too big/skilled of a job for me with lesser experience.

If you know of someone, please share. Again MAKE SURE THEY ARE RELIABLE and warranty their work.

YES, I know of a couple major shops in CT(not trash talking, but wasn’t satisfied with their work) but list them off and I’ll know what your expectations are vs mine.

Thank you.

It happens and will continue to happen, so not overly freaking out about it, but I’m curious what the best way to remove those scratches/swirls is aside from replacing pieces over time. Again, not going to do it every weekend or sweat every little thing, but if I wanted to remove a bunch of them at once, what’s the best way? Is there a way I can PPF those pieces also? The pieces beween the A and B pillars tend to be the most noticeable at eye level in particular. Thanks!
