60k mile service quote

Just gathered a quote for the 60k on the 11' 35i. Anyone else seeing these numbers? Seem honest?

Trans Pan with included filter $985 plus fluid about $280
Belt $235
DIFF $82
Transfer case fluid $231

The transmission fluid and filter change seems high to me. I feel like I've heard of people getting it done for like $500 USD or so but maybe I'm wrong.

The other items seem "ok" to me.

Not sure why you need to replace the belt. My car has 70,000 miles on it and the belt looks brand new. Unless you see cracking I would not replace it. Also, is that diff service for the front and rear diff because it seems very cheap. The front diff is hard to access and the rear diff requires the fluid to be extracted as there is no drain plug. Also, you should be changing spark plugs at 60,000.

There's a 8HP45 fluid change write up here: http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1016592

I did it myself so I don't know how much it would cost at a dealer.

Transmission pan + filter and fluid cost: $390
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...-24118612901kt

Transfer case is expensive due to labor based on the F30 xDrive transfer case. If I'm not mistaken the transfer case has to be removed in order to do the fluid.

At 60k you should be doing spark plugs as well. There's a write up that I did on the F30 forums as well for that: http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1226053

Are these numbers from a dealer or indy shop?

Thanks,

-Numbers are from a dealer.

-Belt does have cracks and showing signs of wear.

-Did the spark plugs already

-I did a trans filter/fluid change on my old 325xi, and I will never ever do one again unless I have a lift. Indy shop was not competitive compared to dealer cost. The dealer also gave me a very decent discount for consistent service with them.

-Diff is for front and rear. I was surprised by this as well, but the Indy shop was actually $30 higher

Can you do us a favour and let us know if you notice any difference in the vehicle after you do all those fluid changes?

Most certainly!

I drive 90 miles a day so the difference should be pretty obvious (if there is one). I've also spoken to some Mercedes and BMW techs as well as a Rolls tech I know and they all say it is worth it if you plan on keeping the car (especially if you tow), but I should have done it about 20k miles ago. (40-50k intervals was about the avg recommended). The Benz guy said forget about it unless you plan on keeping it past 150k. Typical Benz guys (humor).

I tend to get rid of cars well before then. Mileage on last 3 cars when I got rid of them 108K, 107K, 114K. The 114K one was only one I purchased new. I only put about 80K miles on the first 2 listed.

I'm almost to 26K on my X3.

I just brought my '13 28i in for a 60,000 mile service with an indy shop. The following was done:

Oil Change: 103.14

Front Brakes: 464.74

Spark Plugs (without labor): 124.00

Air Filter (without labor): 33.30

Cabin Filter Set (without labor): 106.00

Labor for Spark Plugs and Filters: 110.00

Subtotal: 941.18
Tax: 81.48

Total: 1,022.36

I paid 970 cash.

Hope this helps someone.

Thanks,
dr

This does.

Just changed the spark plugs last weekend and I can tell you I noticed a very large response change.

Fluid servicing scheduled first week of June so I'll report back after that.

Unless there's something terribly wrong with your spark plugs, the difference should be minimal.
