Canada: new x3 35i fully loaded - dealer offering only 2% off msrp
Got a quote for a 2013 X3 35i fully loaded in montreal.
Dealer says he cant go lower than 2% off msrp (1200$). That seems pretty low to me. Msrp is 65,554$ after all options (not inluding taxes) Would be curious to know what you canadian people (montreal region) got off msrp. Thanks for your help |

I think 5% discount is minimum. 2% is like telling you to take it or leave it. Check another dealer I'm sure you can do much better.

it doesn't represent the true cost of anything, rather funny that paint in canada has a 9% markup yet costs 50% more than the states... when I went in to a dealer the first thing they said was "have you checked car cost canada you can see we don't have a lot of markup" in the states there was a company that actually did post true costs they got shut down Just saying... |

Suggest you try unhaggle.com. A friend in Toronto tried it recently to purchase a RAV4, and it worked very well for him.
I bought an X3 a couple of weeks ago. I wasn't interested in playing the usual negotiation game. Instead I asked the dealer to give me a very significant discount on a second set of rims plus snow tires - they were quite happy to oblige and it worked out about the same. As part of my buying research I joined the APA and got their dealer cost package. I must say I was surprised at how little a dealer makes on a sale / how low the margin is. Dave Ings |

Thanks for all your replies.
I sent out a couple of request via email to some dealers (all Montreal area) and was able to get 5%. Was surprised to see how quick some of them provided complete quotes via email. |

BavFan, research before I purchased my X3 indicates that BMW has a 9.89% markup (in Canada).
Donno if that helps but I didn't sweat 1/2% additional discount and I went with the sales guy (CA - contract advisor in BMW speak) that I liked. The dealership was out of my way but like I said, I liked the guy. The difference between 6% and 6-1/2% discount on a $60,000 X3 is $300.... that's 3 tanks of gas. ![]() You could spend a couple hours to weasel that 1/2 point but what is your time and stress worth? Just saying. |

Yup... not to mention the X5 starts at $65k (including PDI, GST) before you even start to think about options.
Plus it's not for everybody - the X5 is too big for my needs. OP, you're on the right track contacting multiple dealers... I did the same when I bought mine. Local dealer offered $1,200 off (and that was doing me a special favor because he's an acquaintance). I ended up with 5.7% off + floor mats from a dealer 300km away. I would have thought it's easier to get discounts these days, I'm assuming the supply is getting better as I see X3's every day now on my 5km commute. |

I got 5.5% discount on a special order 2012 35i locally. All options except HUD. Plus I had them throw in floor mats, trunk tray, 2X Jackets & Hat.
With the inventory levels they have on the lots I think you could do better.

Hi all,
Apologies for resurrecting this thread - but I'm about to start dealing on a new 35i. However, I'm looking for a few specific options and color/trim, so it will most likely need to be ordered. How do the deals change when you take one from existing inventory vs. build to order? Obviously the dealer would prefer to unload something they have on the lot, but is getting 6% off MSRP still somewhat reasonable for an order? Many thanks.

depends
It depends on incentives and time of year (or month)
I ended up getting an 2012 X5 last week for cheaper than the X3. I got 15K off the X5 last day of the month with ~8K incentives. But had to pick what dealer had on lot. |

I've heard that there's much better availability nowadays, so I'd try and push for a bit more. |
