2013 X3 Side Dimming Mirrors - Page 3 - XBimmers

I had a 2006 325i before my 2013 X3 and the auto dimming feature was much better on the 325i. The side mirrors on the X3 barely dim at all. I thought that maybe they were defective until I read that others have had the same problem. It would be less of an issue if the front windows were tinted to match the other windows. Somewhat related question...does anyone know why SUV's typically don't have the driver/passenger windows tinted? I was thinking of having it done but didn't know if it was some weird state law or something. I figured that would solve the blinding lights in my barely dimming side mirrors.

The reason the fronts are not tinted is because of the law. Each state has a law on how dark you can go on the front windows. If the front matches the back you will be illegal in most states and you will get pull over and fined and take the tins off. Check with your state and see how dark they allow the front windows to be tinted.

Every state is different, and you'd be surprised. CT allows you to have up to 35% on the front, yet neighboring states like NY (75%) and RI (75%) differ vastly. MA has 50%. The weird thing is that the South doesn't always have darker tint laws.

Most reputable tint companies know the tint level for your state/region
