I had a build week in May. Then it was changed by BMW to the last week in April, then they changed it to the second to last week (next week) in April, then suddenly it went into production yesterday.

Anyone else getting much faster than expected production times?

Is this normal for them to make it a month sooner than expected?



Don't get me wrong I'm not mad at all , just curious.

A number of posters including myself have had this experience especially with orders on originally long lead times.

I was wondering if they were producing faster and that's why there was a speed up in times but I guess they've been known to do that.

It just shocked me that they changed the production time 3 times in less than 2 days.

I just ordered a 28i that was supposed to be built during the week of May 20th. My CA just informed me that it was moved to the end of this month! It's exciting...but I was hoping to put away a few more pennies into the down payment piggy bank before delivery.

I order March 10 and got my VIN today!

Based on the production video my car is almost complete so I should have it before the end of the month.

FYI - My order was placed on 3/19 and it was delivered on 4/10. According to the website the actual build took 2 days - while "finishing touches" took about 5 days. Enjoy yours!

That's really good turn around time. It looks like it took only 3 weeks from order to delivery...crazy

How long after going into production did you see the video pop up? All I can see so far is some wallpaper.

That is exactly what I see......my car finished production 4/4. Have PCD scheduled for 4/26 and eagerly awaiting that date. I can't seem to get anyone to answer from BMW when the video would be ready, when I asked BMWUSA, they replied back in email that the status of the vehicle is built, ask your CA for any updated status.....but of course that was NOT my question, just want to know where the dang video is at!!!

Sadly not for me. I ordered my X3 back in Feb through Sytner and it's still status 1100 - scheduled production around the middle of May. I'm hoping to get it before the end of June.

I didn't get a video... I was referring to the BMW video and the national geographic video.

Mine was supposed to be Week of April 30 and it went into production this week!

Woody,it appears that the first run of 2013 models were left hand drive. When watching the production video bmw stockpiles painted bodies. I wonder if they stockpiled lhd bodies or if lhd & rhd can be built off the same bodies.

Mine is a RHD for the UK and is supposed to be a week 16 build, but it hasn't gone 5055 and is still 1200 ... :-(

We ordered on March 24 and the car was on the dealer lot April 7. I wonder why ours arrived so quickly and others not so much. We are in the Mpls/St. Paul area. One wonders if the size of the dealership makes a difference????

I've heard dealers get "production slots". Perhaps dealers with better sales numbers and/or positive customer feedback get priority for production.

Dealers do have production slots as in my case I was supposed to wait till May because that was the only production slot the dealership had left. They aren't a volume dealer so they have limited slots. But BMW pulled up the date 3 times and put it into production already. I'm sure they (BMW) know why they did that ..maybe making a particular style batch, a delivery region batch, who knows.

I don't think however they can make it later than the slotted time for a dealer. Hence some guys who stumble on dealers with slots that are sooner are getting it sooner regardless if they order it later that others. Luck of the draw

Fwiw, there is a 50/50 chance that you and I ordered from the same dealer (Minnetonka in my case, which I believe is the larger dealership of the two). We placed an order on March 23 for a 28i M sport and were given a production date of week 17 (last week in April).

Not sure whether this fact is germane to the conversation but the N55 had been vexing me up until this past Wednesday when I had our CA change the order to a 35i M Sport and suddenly the car was in production the next day, with a different production number than the one assigned to the 28i order. So possibly the change of engine bumped us up in the queue somehow? Maybe these are built by batches according to engine.

MSRP= $52,445
paid $48,775 which is right at 7% off msrp and of course BMW is picking up the last couple months of our 328 lease. can't wait!

Also, the phone tracking system indicates a completion date of April 23 though the car should have been through 2 days of production already. The website at this point just indicates "production started" with no details.

Question regarding the accuracy of the online tracking system...all of the colors and options listed are accurate for the vehicle apart from the addition of aluminum satin roof rails which we didn't order but show up in the listed options as well as in the vehicle picture. Emailed our CA about it but haven't heard back yet. If the car shows up with aluminum rails, that is something the dealer shouldn't have any problem swapping out for the black ones, right?
