Powder coat rims on my X3?
I just got my 2012 X3 with M package in titanium silver love the car what a pleasure to drive. I am thinking about having the wheels powder coated black but I am not sure how it will look. Anyone have black wheels on their x3 and any opinions of doing this also may get black kidney grills. Let me know your thoughts would appreciate it.

I have not done anything yet I am leaning towards not having it done. Car is titanium sliver so was going to do the rims and the kidney grills. I am going to rethink it in the spring and make my decision.

Waiting on my AW X3 to arrive. Went to the dealer to ask about changing the colour on the 309s. Saw some black rims on an X5. Unfortunately it just makes the rims disappear - I understand that is what some owners want. Anyway they showed me these 309 profile (20") rims on a GT they had coated in shadow chrome. The dealer can do them for $150ea, which I estimate to be near cost. They also said if I kerb them the can arrange a same day repair. Not that I would need that, I drive too carefully.

Looks great, on AW it looks so good. The thing about the gloss is that you can still see the rim. It's less apparent with the matt finish which I saw on the X5 at the dealer.

Dark rims look terrific on gray/silver/white and red vehicles IMO...
Can give a somewhat pedestrian looking X3 a more aggressive look for sure...I think it looks great on this car. But darker wheels do take away much of the wheel detail aesthetically - so there is some trade-off

And you have to be especially careful about damaging the alloy as its looks even worse than on a normal coloured wheel as there will be missing paint.
Had an Audi A3 black edition with the titantium coloured wheels, looked great but was horrible when you curbed them. |

It is the biggest drawback from having them - otherwise - great! |
