Window problem?

Hi All,
I've just acquired a 2006 X3 and I'm starting to find a few odd issues.
One of the rear windows has an apparent problem where it works normally going down, but not up.
Pressing the switch 'to the resistance point' moves the window down until the switch is released. Pressing the switch 'past the resistance point' sends the window all the way down. No problem there.
But 'up' is not working properly. When I pull the switch up 'to the resistance point', the window doesn't move at all. When I pull the switch 'past the resistance point', the window moves as it should at the resistance point and stops moving when the button is released.
I replaced the battery before discovering this issue. Do the windows require some kind of initialization like the sunroof? Is this a switch problem, or something bigger?
Thanks,
Walter
