Sank - they look like summer wheels but what about the tyres, I cant see enough of the tread to tell - can't believe you still have summer rubber in CH mountains?

Thx OOOSQ

@ tank531, for sure it's the original M rims with the Winter Pirelli tires in the same size as the sommer ones. It was less expensive to change only the tires than to take the 18" Winter Set!!!

Drove 2 mountain passes on Sunday, roads not cleared (only by other cars), and everything went fine. The small path to reach the place, where the pictures were taken, was very steep & slippery. By driving it down I could test for the first time the downhill assistant: very effficient.

Salut Niccolini,

Yes Pirelli Sottozero, in these sizes 19" there is only one model available. They are very good. Used to drive this morning at 120 km/h on the snowy highway between la cote and Nyon. Early enough in the morning to avoid traffic, then too much traffic and had to slow down. Grip is excellent, but physics remain the master on winter road, if you enter too quick in a curve, the big weight of the X3 will push you outside, and I think the roads are not done to practice rally driving.
As you are from Geneva, I drove the Marchairuz road Sunday and it was excellent.

Hello Sank_CH
The summer tyres for these 19" are mixed sized tyres. Is this the same for the winter tyres? Any tipp where to get them in CH? I will receive my X3 30d M Sport within the next few weeks (purchased in UK due to the outrages pricing in CH) and will need to buy winter tyres as well.

nice - the M-Sport body kit is getting close to the snow line! Loks like 20cm of fresh snow.

nice pictures. How do you like how your X3 handle on the snow? Even with the 19" I find it drives really good, and very impressive!

gruezi,
it handles unbelievably well and I'm yet to get stuck anywhere.
it's been good timing as we have had the most snow for years.....
I agree, the 19s are great and as nonRFT I find them comfortable enough.
regards

Hi,
If you want "Real Winter Tyres" then I recommend studded tyres. I have Nokian Hakkapeliitta7 245/50/R18 100T on BMW V-spoke 18" 307 wheels.
Yesterday I ex. drove about 500 km between -15 C to -20 C (5F to -4F) and the small roads were icy - no problem :-).
Here's a pic from this trip taken near Russian border.

They are 8.0 x 19 with 245/45/19's, bought in Germany.

Not sure if they are being sold outside Europe.

I assume you have an engine/under bonnet (plug in) heater too?

I made it as far north as Oulu once in February, cold enough for me.
