Window Problem

Whenever the drivers window is rolled down it makes a horrendous screeching noise. The window also tends to roll down/up slower then any of the others. None of the other windows make this noise. Anyone have any idea why this would be happening?

I want to say its the weather stripping or something but does anyone know a fix for this or should I just go to the dealer and have them fix it?

I also am having this screeching noise - very recent and driver's front window. Have already had the regulator replaced on the passenger front side - very different sound/problem. Although this is a horrific sound that can be heard two blocks away, I'm looking forward to the interesting rationale/techno-babble that the dealer will no doubt present that will boil down to. "Oh, they all do this", or "tinting the windows caused this". The noise does not happen if it's raining, so the dealer will likely suggest I move to Seattle.

Same exact thing. When it rains no noise! I'm waiting to tint the windows after this issue is fixed because I'm worried that it will ruin the tint. I'm going to try and take it to the dealer this week or next.

I don't think it would have anything to do with the window motor. I think it's the weather striping along the window.

I have no issues like you are experiencing, would suggest you take it to the dealer. Please keep us posted.

Question Any Resolution

I didn't see a resolution to this problem and since I am encountering the same issue after 8 months I was wondering what was done to correct it.
Please advise.
thanks

I forgot about this thread! Well I took it in a while ago and the dealer relubed the seals and weather stripping. It worked for a while but the noise has come back

I have yet to take it back but something other then relubing things has to be done.

My car just started to develop this screeching noise on the driver seat window. The technician says it is due to the faulty lining rubber and they need to change it. However, they need to order this spart part. Temporary they add some lubricant to make the noise dissapear.

It was the regulator for me. Had to be ordered from Germany. No problems since replacement, but they blamed it on everything from rain to rubber and a window tint. Not like they've never heard of a BMW window regulator going south.

Had a screech coming only from the drivers window (when opening and closing). The dealer applied some sort of lubricant. Problem solved.

Question New Regulator

I went to the dealer service. Was originally told only a lubricant was required but then informed that there was a recall for the regulator. Waiting for the part which is expected tomorrow.
Will report results.

This issue was with my drivers side window so the recall did not have an impact on the result. However, they did order new window guide rails(something like that) and the noise has disappeared.

I had the screeching when opening/closing my rear driver side window. Had it in today and they "lubricated the seals and cleaned off the window". It is fine at this time.

I also had the left hand side front window regulator replaced per the recall today, but it had not been having any issues yet.

Last year before purchasing my 2012 28i, I test drove a 2011 demo and it had an issue with the passenger window. It made a screeching noise then a crunch and the window didn't go up...

No issue with my 2012

Good luck

Smile RELIEF

So the service people replaced the weather stripping on the outside part of the window ledge. It isn't making the noise. They also did the recall fix of the regulator on the passenger side which entailed taking the side panel inside the door off. Theat was working before and is working now. Took two days becasue they had to wait for the recall part. They did provide a loaner and were very professional and courteous.

Anyone worry about the vapor barrier seal once the dealer works on the recall? Seems it was a big problem with the previous generation X3's. Wonder if it will be the same for this generation?

Squealing here also. And they are awfully slow - any Zhiguli has faster windows.

When my driver's side window started screeching I took it in for service and they replaced a worn flocking. So far, it's been quiet since.

Will call them tomorrow. It isn't making any noise today, but I made a recording of the sound. Strange that the flocking would be worn so soon.
