-= BimmerTech presents Internet and BMW Live =-

BIMMERPOST / Classifieds
Asking Price:
None

Item Interest
We are very happy to inform you that BimmerTech is the first vendor offering the Internet and BMW Live activation in the F-series vehicles.

The Internet and BMW Live include the following services:
- Web browser
- News
- Weather
- Google Local Search
- Street View
- Panoramio

These new features are part of our Combox retrofit or can be enabled in any F-series car equipped with the CIC (SA609) and Combox (SA6VC).

Here are the key features of the BimmerTech Combox retrofit:
- Better Bluetooth integration
- Bluetooth audio
- Album art covers (requires option 6FL or 6NR)
- Office menu
- Internet
- BMW Live

For the Internet and BMW Live you need to have one of the supported phones, e.g. iPhone 3GS or 4 and the tethering (Personal HotSpot) enabled.

If you have BMW Assist active in your car the Internet and BMW Live retrofit will disable Assist features in the iDrive while still allowing you to make emergency calls and send your car location to BMW.

Sounds interesting. So is it possible to enable the Weather, google local search, street view etc even if you don't have BMW assist (not available in Sweden). I do have the Internet option, which essentially is the web browser. Are you able to open up acces to the features mentioned above?

Thanks.

Prolly a stupid question, but here it goes anyways

I have all options on my F25 for internet, BMW connect drive, etc...
BMw does however not success to get it's live services like send route to car and some other nifty cool features that come with the "My BMW remote" Iphone app active here in Belgium...

Does you solution mean that in my case it would be possible to do a software update and get all these features active? If yes, do you sell these software updates?

The Internet browser and BMW Live are OEM features and we just enable them.
If your car software is updated by your dealership this retrofit will be erased and we will have to recode the car.

So you don't have anything like dvdinmotion, a simple piece of software we coulkd run via usb or dvd drive, this way people in same situation as I (All internet options but not active in country) can enjoy these nifty cool features?

That's a pitty, i think there would be serious good business in that!

It's far more complicated than enabling the DVD in motion and we can only do it remotely for our customers.

Remotely? So you could enable it for me here in Belgium at the right price?

This is a a duplicate of the post in the 6NR thread:

I wasn’t able to order 6NR as my X3 was built in January 2011 and I was disappointed that BMW weren’t going to make it available as an accessory or a dealer retrofit (refer to long debate in the 6NR thread with the muppets at BMW UK). I got in contact with Patryk at BimmerTech who has done 6NR retrofits on other BMW models and they have recently started offering it on the F25 so I asked if I could get it done on my X3.

The answer was yes but as these guys don’t have any fitters in the UK it had to be part DIY (the wiring) and then BimmerTech do all of the coding remotely. It’s all fitted now, all working and a success. BimmerTech can also code unlocking DVD in motion which I also got done.

Not having a fitter meant it was slightly more complicated than it would be in countries where BimmerTech team up with specialists to do the fitting and coding together, but Patryk really knows his stuff and the end result is all good and I recommend using BimmerTech.

I wanted 6NR mostly for its potential rather than just what is available now but I have to say that I prefer the iPhone/iPod plug in (over using the woeful iDrive interface for browsing music) and the ability to stream video from an iPhone to the iDrive screen. I had a quick look at internet radio which worked well at home but I think it wouldn’t be that great on the move because of the lack of a 3G SIM. I’m also using it for Twiiter and Facebook – but not very often!

I’ve posted some pictures below of my 6NR retrofit in action.
