US M-Sport Suspension (No DHP) Experience

Hey All,

So I was wondering how many others are out there like me who have the US M-Sport package but no DHP on their 2011 X3? What are your views about the "sport suspension delete" setup that we are all forced into here in the US? After driving it for almost 1000 miles (put on a lot of miles from PDC), I would have to say that it's not really bad but just a bit soft during those bouts of hard cornering that I have. It's also a little too bouncy/floaty at times. BUT I do appreciate the comfortable ride it affords on long commutes, especially with our 19 inch. RFT, which is about 90%+ of all the driving that I do with my X3. But I wouldn't mind if it was just a tad little firmer...

SJ

"Sports suspension delete" just means standard suspension in a nice way. I think the standard suspension is fine for most ppl.

I came from an Acura RL. Although the BMW x3 m-sport comes with standard suspension, it does feel a bit firmer than my previous Acura's. Are BMW's standard suspension still a little more sportier/stiffer than the competition's suspension based on your guys experience?

In general yes, European cars (apart from the French) tend to have firmer ride even with so called "comfort" suspension.

Whispered -- Did you get the standard suspension (code 225) or the sport suspension (code 226, standard with MSpt)?

Just so that it doesn't come into play with this thread, variable damper control suspension is code 223, and we are not talking about it here. There are lots of other threads discussing this topic.

I don't think 226 is offered in US, either 225 (std w/M-pkg) or 223 (w/DHP).

I am talking about 225. 226 is not offered in the US, as you correctly mentioned. I wanted to get 223 but my order didn't go through correctly unfortunately. Maybe I can upgrade my suspension one day to compensate?

Thanks,
SJ.

I am still waiting for mine, but on my order sheet I have 226 with my MSpt. But then I'm in Canada, so maybe things are different? I didn't ask for either, that is just what came with the car.

Most likely. In the US, we don't get to choose b/t 225 and 226 if we get the m-sport. Lucky you!

There certainly would be after market parts. Perhaps Koni and Bilstein will have shocks that fit X3, however since the model is new, it's not clear whether their existing products work.

RL is probably tuned on the soft side. Early RDX were very firm, and TL with SHAWD is reasonably firm.

Wht u can do is source the springs & anti-roll bars from 223 locally, & try ordering 226 dampers from Europe. That'll give u the full 226 works.
Aftermkt parts are still very scarce for the F25 atm.

That is pretty genius to me. Since the car is still brand new, I think I'll be tinkering with it at a later time. By then, maybe BMW will recognize that people who get the M-Sport package here in the States may also want a way to upgrade their suspension.

Most people who buy X3 will not care. For the few who do, they can just add DHP.

Seeing how few Americans buy wagons, BMWNA knows their customers don't think like Europeans. Regulations on light trucks also make it much easier to sell/buy trucks than wagons in the U.S. If you really want the ultimate driving machine experience, get the 328iT with 6MT and ZSP while you still can.
