Cup holder inserts with Chrome edge

A few folks have reported their X3 arriving recently with two inserts in the front cup holders. Not sure if they are an alternative cup holder or a general purpose storage container. Attached some pictures.

Oh!

I'm glad you posted this. I was wondering about the cup holders. So, the chrome inserts come out? They look as I they will be too narrow to fit my travel mug. What are the inserts for?

I think they’re for holding general stuff.
Probably not good for cups as they disable the tensioning fingers.

They certainly looks more upmarket than without

Can someone get hold of the part number from a dealer in the US/Canada (perhaps the part number is embossed on the underside?)

Yep, I confirm this also on the Belgian configurator, seems to be a wprldwide change!
I've always been a fan of little details to make things look better than the others... this clearly is one of those details! It makes the car look more finished and expensive

I like the chrome inserts. They also give you the option of taking them out and placing one in the center storage compartment for coin storage. However, I think the the front cup holder looks better with the chrome inserts.

Its a shame that there doesn't appear to be any place in the X3 for coins. There are still plenty of places that have coin-fed parking meters.

Does anyone have any other suggestions regarding coin storage?

Thank you for the heads-up, Lotus.

This option was mentioned in the aforementioned thread:

Does anyone know if this coin holder will fit snugly in the center storage compartment?

UK configurator only shows these cromed inserts if you add the optional extended storage pack! I checked with FF 4.0.1

I'm kind of pissed about this. These appear to be part of the Premium Package in America which includes and enhanced "storage" package. I want these, BADLY. Does anyone know the part number without having to buy the smoker's package?

I received the chrome inserts with delivery last weekend. As a bonus, I also received the "folding box" for the cargo compartment from the factory!!! It was hidden under the rear floor in the cargo area - cool.

I think I have one of those two, I spotted something in there when I picked it up and then forgot all about it, thanks for the reminder!

I remembered seeing the chrome rings in the photos of my configuration, and then noticed they were not there when I took delivery.... but then my CA handed me a foam wrapped item and voila - there it was. I think they are for loose change or general small item storage. They pop in and out easily enough.

Also wonder if they are provided for the 35i trim and not the 28i? Not sure.

We were told these inserts were standard in all X3s as of mid April.
