I got this info sheet from a BMW marketing guy. This is from the training materials for all the CAs...who apparently have never bothered reading it. Hopefully it will clear up some confusion.

No, only in the 35i. If you want Performance Control (thats the fancy name for the switch) in a 28i, you need to add the Dynamic Handling Package.

i got the 35i and within the m package it has the performance control..... i swear that benz and audi packages aren't this confusing.....

You'll be set then. The only thing you won't get is damper control.


And yes, BMW has really out done themselves this time. I feel like I've taken on a second job trying to sort through their BS.

Thanks for the info, but this raises a few questions for me.

Is the button/switch to change modes between Sport+, Sport, and Normal come with Performance Control or Dynamic Damping Control?

Is Electronic Damping Control = Dynamic Damping Control?

What is DDC?? Dynamic Damping Control or Driving Dynamics Control?

I guess the bottom line is does M-Sport on a 28i come with the switch for Sport+, Sport, Normal without ordering the DHP package? And if so, does it control/change the suspension firmness?

For a company that uses an acronym for a name, they don't do very well with creating them for their options!

Perforance Control and Driving Dynamics Control are the same thing, and that is the name of the switch. Not sure why it has two names. The button is there if you have a 28i with DHP, or a 35i with DHP and/or SAP. In the case of 35i with SAP but without DHP, the switch will adjust the shift points and firm up the power steering ONLY. It will not change the suspension settings.

I believe so. I think the terms are different for US/CA/AU/EU, but the feature is the same.

DDC = Driving Dynamics Control
EDC = Electronic Damping Control AKA Dynamic Damping Control in some brochures.

Yes to the first one and no to the second one. I think.

Thx so much for this info MA78! I just asked my CA this question when I ordered last Saturday, and couldn't get a definitive answer one way or the other. This clears it up 100%

Funny because when I ordered the car in mid January, my SA said that for the 28i, dynamic handling package was not available, nor the sports seats (or rear heated seats), not even as a special order. So either he didn't know or check with someone higher up (which he said he did), I suspect he lied. Must be a Canadian configuration thing.

I didnt' want to spend the extra $10k to move up to the 35i, just to get these features (plus I didn't want the turbo'd engine).

No. 5000 if both are base msrp. 41900 and 46900 respectively.

He didn't lie, you still can't get Dyn Handling on a 28i in Canada. I don't think you can get Sport seats on a 28i either in Canada. And the 35i is only $5K more than the 28i on base price.

Yes, $5k on base price, but by the time you add everything up on the 35i, the price jumps nearly $9k over the 28i.

But it would add the same price to the 28i. So it's not more expensive you are just adding more options that you don't have too.
