No idea. But I can tell you that if you don't have the tech package and you try to plug your ipod into the center consul, nothing will happen.

MAV is right. I don't have the tech package and nothing happens if I just plug the standard ipod cable into my console. I need the adapter I got from the dealer which has BOTH the USB and Aux cable, so I can get the Music Info (from USB) and sound (from Aux).

As the "Tech Package" doesn't exist in Aus, does anyone know which specific options are needed for this to work please?

Hmm...good question. Maybe pro nav? You would definitely need nav...not sure what else.

Pro nav works. You don't need anything else. May also work with business nav

On our March build, we have Nav but no other options. No cable was provided.

The standard Apple iPod cable works fine for my iPhone - includes album art.

The y cable might be required for older iPods, but not the iPhone

No, the Y cable is what you need if you don't have nav.

THE Y CABLE IS FOR CARS WITHOUT NAVIGATION OR TECH PACKAGE. IF YOU HAVE A CAR WITHOUT NAV, YOUR CA WILL NEED TO GIVE YOU THE Y CABLE FOR YOUR IPOD/IPHONE TO WORK.

Dealer didn't include one for me...so I just took the one I had from my '08 335xi!

SA told me that if you are using a current generation iPod touch/iPhone then the cable that has both a USB and AUX plug isn't necessary. I use a iPod Classic so needed the USB/AUX cable.
