Energy regeneration gauge

I seen to be seeing some dashboard shots, including on page 55 of the UK brochure, that show a blue energy regeneration gauge on the rev counter. It is also on the drawing on p14 of the US online manual but vanishes on pages 15 and 16 with the professional and business dials. Do all cars have such a feature regardless of comms system and if so where? I presume it can be seen by switching iDrive screens on some / all systems, tho this is a bit of a nuisance. I have ordered a std UK comms system, so what will I get? Think it would be cool to see KERS in action all the time without having to change anything.

Here's a vid where you can see it in action (near the end, when he takes his foot off the pedal)

initially posted wrong link, well spotted by Bimmer uk 76. This is the correct link:

So based on the above, it looks like basic UK (and beyond?) cars get an analogue dial and those spending more pennies get a snazzier version. The Uk brochure shows the dial as standard, so looks like that is what will come with mine.

They're all analogue dials except mpg which becomes digital with pro. It's the digital screen behind the dials that changes with pro sat nav. Pro has a bigger section with more information displayed - see below. The dials also look more 3D than the standard dials for some reason.

And they all look better at night

As long as the feature is on all cars in one way or another regardless of spec I am happy with that. Might make all those traffic lights a bit less annoying knowing slowing up is regenerating something!

As mentioned. It's only on cars with nav pro. Cars without, regardless of spec only get analog mpg gauge.

Actually a big reason why I decided to go for nav pro.

Yep, people are talking about two different things here:

1. mpg: Pro = digital, All other = manual
2. Efficient Dynamics: Pro = included in digital display, All other = not available

The 4 main dials for fuel, speed, revs and temp are analogue in all versions

Sfax - what do you mean by Efficient dynamics and Pro here? The Uk brochure shows Nav system BMW Professional as an option on Page 56 yet shows the instrument panel (with what looks like a blue Efficient Dynamics slot in the correct place and states it as a standard option) on page 55. Does that agree with or differ from your summary above? I am still unclear if a standard UK car has the regeneration gauge. Page 68 of the US manual calls it an Energy Recovery guage and the lake of stars suggests it is standard. Anyone have a standard UK car without Nav Pro to nail this for me?

Page 54 of the Uk brochure also refers to an "average fuel consumption gauge" next to the blue ED? dial, stating both as standard.

I think all X3 models have "Efficient Dynamics", its just you only see it in action on the dash if you have the Pro Nav option. The test car I drove only had Business Nav, and nothing on the dash/dials to show the Efficient Dynamics was operational when I was coasting.

So that is what I feared from Sfax and others but that does seem to contradict the UK brochure (as outlined above) unless the blue bit of the mpg gauge on the brochure photo is an error.

For info, the US manual mentions settings "Additional info" via iDrive to see some dash stuff, naming "Current Fuel Consuption" then lists "Energy recovery". Any chance it was just not toggles on during your test drive?

The area of the dash where the blue bar appears is missing unless you have pro I'm afraid. You can see the area occupied by the screen behind the dash on a non pro model isn't big enough in the image above. The chances of it appearing elsewhere are slim IMO

The brochure has a few mistakes like no buttons on the standard steering wheel (it's a pre-production picture).

The mystery to me is why BMW don't explain all of these extras to get you to buy pro nav. The brochure and information on this is misleading IMO

Oh and the UK configuration tool on the Uk website says Nav system Pro 609 is free on the 3.0d SE. So should I rejoice re the above or is that wrong too?

609 looks free in the option list but if you select it it adds the pro media package and with that about £2,500 to your total

Just for clarity, I'm only talking about the Efficient Dynamics indicator. Not seeing that blue bar in action doesn't mean it's not happening
