Welcome Nad. The discounts will vary depending on where you are with some dealers stubbornly refusing to give you much at all and others giving 5% or even more in some cases. In my experience, they won't take you seriously on discounts until you're at the point where you're physically handing over a deposit. Ignore sweeteners like the £300 paint protection when working out how much discount you're actually getting as I'm sure they throw this in regardless. If you don't like the price you're offered, call a different dealer further afield. For reference I got 5% but did spend £12k on options

I got £2.25K on my original spec..... but like most members then increased the spec/order value and got no further discount.

I got 5% off the bottom line including options. When I added more I got more options I paid 95% of list.

The only thing not discounted was the road tax!!!!

My car is registered and at the dealer but my lease company won't let me swap even a day earlier than the expiry of the current one. So I am waiting until 8 Feb.

The car will come on a flatbed to my house as I am in Sutton Coldfield and the dealer is in London.

When I asked if I could wait and have a new 12 plate on the car I was told no. Suspect the lease company got a good price for a late 61; a discount that I won't be seeing!

Apart from the usual checks are there any key things I should look for on an X3 e.g. Not being in transport mode?

I got just over £4200 off mine from a list price of £51850 or thereabouts so just over 8%.

Every discount I see over my 5% is like a punch in the kidneys but that's life

and well done to all those who managed to get a good discount. The X3 hadn't even been released in the UK when I ordered mine in Oct 2010 so I was going in blind but no doubt I could have done better on the negotiations. It's still very much in demand so if you're getting 5-8% or even more you're doing very well IMO

I have a question for those that have been kept regularly up to date on build/delivery changes by their dealers- does anyone know if this info is push or pull to UK BMW dealers? i.e. do they receive weekly/monthly alerts of changes to build slots or do they only know when they go in and look?

Never had to wait this long for a BMer before so never cared to find out!

+1 although I did miss the VAT hike so cant complain to much! Car is 1yr old on Friday. Renewed the tax today...Â£130 for a 4wd suv...amazing value!

My experience is that it's pull not push but each dealer probably has their own process and intervals for when to check the status and when and what to inform you of - so you do get some push notifications by proxy. My status miraculously changed twice simply by me turning up at the dealership and looking at their little DOS screen, i.e. it had probably changed some time ago and there was no instant push notification to the dealer and consequently none to me. Would be nice if they had a web front end for this database so orders could be checked easily without needing to call the dealer. They have online tracking in the US but it's reported to be inaccurate, e.g. wrong colour on order etc

My dealer let me know yesterday that my car has departed the plant and confirmed a delivery date of 7 March, so perhaps they are all on the same boat.

So far, it is not showing up on the track and trace. I went to the dealer last night and the vehicle is showing as something like 'in transit' - but I can't remember what it said exactly.
I guess that means it has left the production plant and may well not have even made it to the shipping area yet - perhaps someone is joyriding it in shipping mode

I'll keep checking though
