BMW Releases the X3 xDrive 18d
This car is BMWs entry level xDrive car using a 2.0l 4 cylinder diesel engine putting out about 143hp. This car is meant for economy first of course and seems to be filling in a gap while BMW awaits the arrival of the X1.

the next X3 won't be out for another year, or so (2011 model year). they've got to make due with this model until then.
otherwise, it looks like a pretty solid release. i know the 2.0L Diesels are popular. that's all i saw in Italy a couple of years ago. i wish a small diesel was available stateside. i think it would be a popular option.

honestly, why the hate on the X3? it's common knowledge that it was based on the E46. The E46 was a great platform, that continues on in the form of the X3 and current Z4.
it does what it has to do, and does it quite well. i'm satisfied with my car, just as much as i'm satisfied with my wife's car. when the next one comes out, i'll get that. otherwise, leave it alone. jeez, get a life, and stop hating!

The BMW X3 xDrive 18d is strictly for european consumption.
To understand this masterstroke for sustainability you have to look at the forthcoming BMW X1. Although debuting in June , The X1 will not arrive in the European market until late September just after the World Premiere in Frankfurt. The BMW X3 xDrive 18d will provide some sustainance till the X1 has it's market introduction. Then as expected by BMW falling sales of the X3 will be caught by the X1. And when the X3 is replaced in January next year the new model will be more dynamic and more sport orientated than the current car leaving the X1 to fill the gaps especially around the lower engined X3 models. In which the entry model (for europe) will be the 2.0d. So in essence BMW will have only a few months of sales left before the introduction of the next X3 and the X1 should provide some cover until the transition , but the X3 will probably be first onto the US Market . The BMW X1 will not be sold in the North American market. |

Actually, I don't mind the x3 at all, when my boss was looking for an SUV for her daughter, I told her they should check them out...
They ended up buying a loaded CPO'd truck and she absolutely loves it. However, the e46 has been gone since 2005/2006, it just seems like this truck and the z4 are lagging behind everything else in the current line-up. Sure, I understand you can't update the entire lineup all at once, but I think the current x3 is past its prime... That being said, I'm keeping my e46 forever. I don't owe much on it and it still has LOTS of life in it. I'm going to do the no-car payment thing for 2-3 years then find a CPO'd M toy. At that point my current beater will go away and my e46 will become my daily driver again.
