I had regular DSL...at $34.95 + taxes = $40.89

So I figure....FiOS at $39.99 + taxes = $45.00

I see by searching that FiOS is something that Verizon offers, but it isn't available here. Is there something comparable that would be offered in Florida?

1418 down, 317 up. Oceanic Time Warner Road Runner through a Belkin Pre-N router. Wow, until I saw everyone else's comparison numbers, I though my connection was fast. I'll have to check my DSL connection at work tomorrow. I also use my Audiovox PPC-6700 through Sprint for "broadband access" which is about half the speed of my cable service.

Hey, Nature - NICE FiOS! Verizon has had FiOS in the east coast for a long time now and it's quite surprising how many folks aren't jumping onto the bandwagon - you get 4X the speed and reliability for nearly the same cost, if not cheaper than other slower competitors.

I also didn't even know Verizon FiOS expanded into CA. Nature, there some kind of website I can go to to check for FiOS availability?

EDIT: Found it! http://www22.verizon.com/content/ConsumerFios

For me, DC was fastest. Shocker. At work, I got 30,331 download / 7815 upload. I'm surprised it is faster than FiOS. I've heard FiOS is ridiculously fast.

Where on the east coast do they offer this Verizon FiOS? This thread is the first I have ever heard of Verizon FiOS. But then again, I don't even have a landline phone (I use Vonage for my home phone), so it would be unlikely for Verizon to send me updates services in the mail.

I used to have Verizon DSL when I lived in Boston and it was unbearably slow (about 700-800kbs down and 64-100 kbps up). When I moved to NYC (and then NJ), all of the cable companies had advertisement making fun of how slow Verizon DSL was compared to thier services. I went with Time Warner since my building has a discount deal with them (about $30-35/mo for cable modem)

I ran that test on my wireless cable network. I never have upload/download issues. Everything is fast! Graphic intensive pages load without issue (..i.e...those horrid, overdone Myspace pages for example), and everything runs well.

but that's more for business etc.........

personal use.....Up to 15 Mbps/2 Mbps.....should be sufficient.
