Well, the Porsche guys can't diggest there is competition, the BMW guys want to explain the X4 is a better.

So, you like it or you hate it, but the X4 does it for me: design is more modern then the Macan and the performance comes close.

The Porsche fans are not at ease :-) that's for sure....

Nice....

i actually do prefer the stylling of the X4 - not by much - but for me, the kind of roads I like to drive - b roads all around europe - the macan is a no brainer. I wanted to trade my X3 for an X4 the moment I knew it was beeing built - the X3 always felt floaty, and the diesel engine agricultural - but the macan is on another level dynamic wise. The interior is better as well but I will miss the idrive. bar that I think that if I went for an X4, everytime a macan pulled up next me or I was on the N120 in northern spain I would be thinking "I should have gone for the macan".

It's the X5 vs. Cayenne all over again. You're either going to be in the BMW camp or the Porsche. Today's automotive landscape isn't the same as it was 10 years ago where different marques where leaps ahead of each other. Regardless of what segment, all cars are so close to each other in what they offer it just comes down to brand loyalty and preference.

But clearly from this video and others that were posted here, the Macan isn't the walkaway favourite like everyone was going on about before the reviews. I have already seen a few X4s on the road and the design isn't that bad IRL like all current BMW's.

This guy looks like vince vaughn haha

I agree on what they said about the porsches multmidia vs the idrive..but other than that the porsches interior looks better as well as the exterior..at least for me.

Performance wise both are pretty close, with the P a notch better..id go for it with my eyes closed.

There's not a single department X4 wins.
And the real problem is that X4 is ugly in a video, but it looks worse in person.
It hurt my eyes when I saw it in the dealer.

Much rather have a X3 + a jetski.

Prices in this review are completely unrepresentative.

Macans will go for MSRP for the next 3 years, lease terribly, and you end up adding $20K in options to get the car you want.

X4s option out a little pricey as well. But it will quickly be possible to get them for invoice plus a bit, with good leasing options from BMW placing payments in the high 600s.

Similar performance.

So, the story remains the same as it's always been. The Porsche is somewhat more appealing, but about 40% more expensive than a comparable BMW.

In that context the BMW begins to look like a good choice for a lot of people.

here in the uk its actually cheaper. My S petrol - no petrol x4 but diesel same price - actually came out £470 cheaper than a similar equip x4!

Macan all day everyday. The X4 is awful. I would even take a SQ5 over the X4. When it comes to the Cayenne vs X5, I actually prefer the X5. Although the X5 vs Cayenne, that is a much closer battle. In the case of the Macan. It is a walk away winner, by a mile.

Macan all day, every day. There isnt a single more appealing thing about the x4 over the Macan.

Same goes for Cayenne over the X5. Just better in every aspect.

Because the Macan is a better, more desireable car. There's already a 1 yr wait list...something I dont think any BMW has ever had.

what options are you talking about? with Macan S its enough to kill the X4 easily. you dont need the Turbo. with the Macan S (fully specs and all options) its still cheper on X4 M sport same specs and actually there are still missing options on X4.

First, I agree that the Macan is the better car. I'm saying that Porsches are always more expensive than people expect them to be and they don't lease well. To get into a Macan, you'll pay more than you expect. To get into an X4, less than you expect. That may sway a few opinions. Porsche will still sell more Macans than BMW will X4s.

Nah. I just went out and built a Macan; I was only slightly careless with option choices - I still left a lot of stuff unchecked. I ended up with nearly $30,000 in options alone. I'm telling you, Porsches are awesome but base price is only the beginning. Dealers will probably strip spec them in the mid 60s, which will leave a lot of options on the table but they won't have any trouble selling them.

More desirable? Likely, it is a Porsche after all. But having a wait list doesn't necessarily mean it's the walkaway winner like we have seen in reviews. BMW will never have a wait list (not sure if the E60 M5 had one) for their core lineup because they have volume a lot more than Porsche so by default, there will always be available stock from day 1. The other factor is that this is a reasonably affordable and practical vehicle, a first for Porsche, which appeals to more consumers so you add that to the already limited production of Porsche's in general and it's not surprising that there is a one year wait list.

Having just bought an X4, here is my take on it....

1 - Macan is quite a bit more expensive with similar spec at least in Europe when you actually go to deal.
2 - X4 MSport in the correct color is more appealing (Ok beauty is in the eye bla..bla..)
3 - X4 interior cleaner & nicer
4 - X4 vs Macan driving not a huge difference, Ok Macan supposedly better but... not by enough to change my mind.
3 - Don't want to drive a Porsche really because of the badge (Small town)
4 - SQ5 is dated but would be my second choice and will probably change to the new one when it comes in 2 yrs...

But for the love of god BMW - Give the X-Line for reviews - looks WAY better! With the X-Line the looks actually is a win for X4
