Parked-car ventilation menu grayed out

Anyone understand how to activate this function? My display has the timers operable but the activation option at the top cannot be selected.

Does anyone use this feature?

Thanks.

It's been awhile, but I remember struggling with it too. My vague recollection is that you first have to set a start time, and then the function will no longer be grayed out.

It is the same in my new 2015. I've turned on the 2 timers. But the top line remains grayed out. I guess I need to set it and listen to see if something happens.

Correct.

The Parked Car Ventilation has nothing to do with the timers.

I use the timer function daily, once at lunch and again at quitting time. I have a shortcut on my 1-8 buttons that takes me directly to the Climate screen. Pretty much a habit now to hit my shortcut on the drive into work and enable the start times.

I have never used the feature in car, but I frequently use the BMW remote App to set ventilation if the weather is warm!

Clarification. When turned off, the parked car ventilation can be turned on. If you go out to the car to play with it. It is grayed out even if the car isn't turned on.

Having to reenable it each day is helpful if you do something like go to the airport parking for a week or 2 gone. You wouldn't want it to go off every day, draining your battery. Not much fun to return, and find a dead battery.

After more reading and fiddling.

You have your choice of immediate activation or timers for later activation.

Engine running: immediate activation grayed out.
Engine off and ignition left on: immediate Activation command available. Timers available.
Ignition off: nothing available (duh!)
Ignition turned back on, engine off: immediate Activation grayed out. Timers still available.

It seems you can only activate the PC vent immediately after shutting off the engine, for example if you're just making a brief stop and want the vent left running. If you turn off the ignition and power down everything, you can't simply turn the ignition on to activate the PC vent. You would have to start and stop the engine to again have it available, or as suggested below, set a timer to have it come on whenever you wished.

The vent runs 30 minutes and must be set again after 24 hours.

That's correct, but you could set a timer to kick on within a few minutes if you really wanted it to run

Hey, All

Brand new owner and still learning all the features. Didn't take long to realize how much I love driving the thing, though...

Really liking this climate feature as this car seems to get hotter than any vehicle I've ever owned while sitting in a parking lot. After reading this last night, I set it today and came out of work to a significantly cooler car.

Lots of great info/folks on this forum!

You're right. I went back and edited the post to include that.

I've never used this feature but now that it is getting hot outside i want to try it. But if you use it for 30 minutes at a time seems like it will be a big drain on the battery, especially on hot days. is that right or is it a small amount of current draw to operate it?

On very hot days I set one timer for 16:00 and one for 17:00. I've never ever had a battery issue for any reason, including the ventilation. My daily drive is 30 miles each way, and that may be sufficient to cover whatever the ventilation battery draw is, as well as everything else.

Just use it, that's what it's there for!

Been using this feature for years and never once had an issue. I'd imagine the car will recognize a low voltage condition well before it's to the point of no return and kill all accessory power in an effort to retain enough juice for starting.

Does anyone know how this works through the app? I have the ability to turn it on through the iDrive, but I do not see the option in the Remote App.

Is this on every model or part of an option pack?

It's not listed anywhere as an option. AFAIK it's on every model.

It's not in the US app. My recollection is that it is in the UK app, but not in the US app.
