I have a 2011 x3 28i. I was wondering did any one try to use a spare tire from e83 x3? I am talking about donut.

I think you'll find the E83 uses slightly smaller circumference tyres. i.e. E83 235/55/17 F25 225/60/17. So I presume the donut tyre will be slight smaller on an E83 which could cause some problems with the F25 drivetrain if you drive more then a short distance.

Also you might also have problems with brake calliper clearance- I found this out the hard way when I tried to install full size E83 17" wheels on my F25.

My advice- just buy a F25 donut wheel with tyre off ebay- they are not that expensive.

If the spare physically fits, you need to verify rev/mile. Do not use just the diameter of the tires. Other things come into play such as air pressure, car weight. Look up the rev's for each different tire from the manufacture. Ratio of 1:1 rev/mile is best, if not try to stay within in 1%-2% of other tires. You can always "trick" a tire into being smaller by decreasing the air pressure a little.

The e83 x3 2010 comes stock with a 235/50/18. The f25 28i comes with a 245/5018. The brakes on the 35i are larger then the 28i.

the diameter of the spare vs. stock is what matters not to mess up your car's systems. check out any tire calculator site for that info, like willtheyfit.

as long as you're within 3% of stock, you'll be fine. that's how everyone who wants to change their tire / wheel size does it.
