04' x3 2.5 Do these engines run cooler than the earlier engines

I have noticed that my x3 runs cooler than my older models - i have always enjoyed the quick heat on colder days. are these newer engines running cooler than the earlier ones? both my other cars run much warmer, and take longer to cool down . . . i am a 24yr bmw veteran. Or, is my 85K mile SAV having a blockage possibly that i need to investagate further? Thanks.

Rear (exhaust) thermostat. The X3 is environmentally nice, it reuses the exhaust gasses which is measured by a thermostat (not on the engine block). Around a $100 for everything.
