Service intervals
not that i'm complaining but why is it that the service intervals on my new x3 are so far apart compared to my previous car a Subaru B9?
any ideas anyone....if you take into account all the added costs of servicing, I should have switched to BMW a long time ago goatee |

Condition Based Servicing has been avoided by car makers for way to long - the only item that needs doing is an oil change - which with new oils is now around 20k miles - so its a better bet for everyone.

I only drive about 6000 - 7000 miles per year. I'm not waiting for 3 years to do an oil change. Aren't they suppose to do it annually regardless of the mileage?

Strange isn't it, when the customer pays for each service it's every 6 months. When we buy a package from BMW there's barely any servicing needed.....

I choose to change fluids at about half the recomended range. Same in the wrangler that recommends every 8000 miles. Just the old fashion part of me. It's hard to not want to follow the 3-5000 service that I grew up with. Plus with more service comes more opportunity to check or look at other components. I'd rather spend a little more for service and have the piece of mind.

Apart from an early oil change (3-4000miles from new) I would just follwo the service guide.
The whole point is that we have been conditioned to PAY for more service then is really needed. I did a lot of work on Submarine Servicing - and this was clear picked up that stuff was being over serviced! Which is just a waste of money. |
