Switching off the LCI

Maybe it's just me...my pre-LCI seemed easier to switch off. What happens with my LCI is that I need to wait 2 or 3 seconds before hitting the off button for the 2nd time to fully turn off the car.

I should simply give up with the 2nd push and lock the car when I walk away.

I've not noticed a difference. In fact it's that automatic I can't really say what I do but I'm out in a couple of seconds - like a ninja.

I think I pull up, hit the off button (still in D mode but it switches to P), pull the handbrake switch then get out and lock from the key fob. I certainly don't push the off button twice - do I need to?

When I lock the car the radio stops, the display goes out and the alarm arms shortly after (blinking red light comes on).

I need to do the same....and even easier as I use Auto Hold.

With my pre-LCI I used to give 2 pushes of the off button in quick succession. This doesn't work on my LCI as the car needs a delay between pushes now. As I mentioned in the original post I'll just have to abandon the 2nd push and lock the car.

Tried it for you this evening. You're right there is a brief delay, however I think the 2nd push is somewhat redundant.

Well, you need the second push for ON/OFF button if you need to use Home lights feature.

When I pull up my car, I press OFF once - it automatically goes to "P" and the audio is still on. I press OFF again, open the driver door, pull the high beam lever towards me once (like flashing) as I get out - this turns on the headlights for a period of seconds you set in idrive. I have set it to 40secs.

So after doing the flash thing which turns on the lights I get out of the car and lock it.. the headlights go off after 40secs. If you dont follow this sequence you wont get home lights.

If you dont want to use the Home lights, then its pretty simple. OFF the car, it goes to "P" and parking brake gets set as I remove seat belt, open the door, get out and then just lock the car.

So you don't bother to put the vehicle in Park, you just turn it off and let it put itself in Park? Then you put the parking brake on yourself or are you saying it puts it on for you?

It's very mechanical so I forgot to mention a step. Let me think properly and write this time.
If you have AutoHold function activated and when you stop the car at your garage then
1. You remove your seat belt - this automatically sets the parking brake itself when I press the button to remove seat belt.
2. Press OFF - this automatically changes D to P and cuts of the engine.
3. Open the door - audio is still going on
4. Get out and lock the car.

The above procedure doesn't enable homelights. If you want to do homelights then
1. You remove your seat belt
2. Press OFF - this automatically changes D to P and cuts of the engine.
3. Open the door.
4. As you are getting out, Press OFF again and flash hi beam lever towards you once
5. get out and lock the car. The headlights stay on as you have set in IDrive.

This thread is interesting, I simply put car in P, handbrake and turn off once as I leave, confirm access close ensures all is shut down inc radio as I walk away.

You could trim the P step from that if you really want to optimise your ninja exit skills

I never apply the handbrake but I always use auto H. Either way the car does this anyway.

Glad you asked? :-) It's the BMW term for mid-life update.

Life Cycle Impulse ... which to you and me means "mid life facelift". The X3 had a few changes this year, most noticeable of which is the front headlight/grille/bumper. For those of us in Europe, the 2.0d engine is also a new version - quieter, bit more power and supposedly more economical. Not sure about other markets but the standard spec also got more generous in the UK (business nav, powered tailgate, heated front seats and DAB radio all included). Having had an early 2011 X3 I'm also noticing lots of tweaks and general improvements.

India also got the new engine for 2.0D. The only problem is the standard variant doesnt have 609 Nav and has the 6.5inch screen. Is it practical to retrofit it to 10.2 NBT later ?

To me now, exiting is a series of mechanical steps which just happen like clock work. But I struggled a lot to understand the sequence of steps for activating homelights. Very wierd sequence I say.

LOL.... dont be such an oldie...lol push start is much easier than keys and achieves a lot more too.

We always use Autohold, so we just press stop once. Get out and lock the doors.... simplees.

Makes good use of all the auto features the car has.

Agreed. But with that HomeLights won't work. The 2nd press of Stop button is required. Couldn't they have just kept the lights ON for like 30 secs when u just open the door. Was so simple.
