I cannot believe this just happened to my new X3
Hi everyone,
Just bummed because I only got my X3 4 days ago and it got smashed by a freak hailstorm today while it was parked outside my parent's house. The hailstorm didn't even last 5 mins and just hit all of a sudden. I didn't notice any damage until I got home in the garage because it was dusk when it happened. Car hasn't even done 200 KMs yet and it has to go to a special body repairer already. Sorry for my vent but I am just so right now. |

Mine is not even a month old and some road debris flew up and smacked the front hood leaving scrapes. It was one of those things which are beyond our control... There is nothing I could have done to prevent it......fate I guess Last edited by FX3OK; 04-22-2012 at 10:09 AM.. |

Really sorry to hear that ... :-(
There was another thread recently showing the result of a hailstorm on BMWs in a lot. They came out looking like golf balls ... About the only saving grace would be if it made them more aerodynamic and faster for it ... I always wondered if the golf ball principle would work on cars.

Thanks for everyone's support.
No pictures yet (its just past midnight here). I saw the other thread about the hailstorm a while ago as I was waiting for my X3 and my dents aren't anywhere near as bad as those photos. Never would have guessed this would happen to me though! Luckily my insurance company recommended me to the specialist BMW dent removal workshop so hopefully they do an outstanding job that is imperceptible. I'm more annoyed that I've had to wait over 4 months to get the car (ordered mid-December 2011) and haven't even enjoyed it for 4 days. edit: I will post photos soon |

I've taken some photos just then and attached them to this post (first time trying so hopefully this works). Unfortunately, there are many smaller pock marks that are only really visible during the day. The roof is worst affected but fortunately no cracked windscreen/sunroof that I can discern.

Sorry to hear that, what a bummer!! I had a previous vehicle damaged by hail ALL over the car, and every dent was able to be removed without any paint work, so I bet you will have the same luck with yours

Just got it assessed this morning by the BMW accredited repairer... they could not believe how badly damaged the passenger side doors were (where most of the hail was hitting). They said it just wasn't worth repairing and just ordered new panels instead as well was the chrome trim around the windows. The bonnet and the roof could be repaired without repainting though. All up could take up to 3-4 weeks

+1 I have to agree. When it's done it would be technically as it was before and not a "repaired" X3. You came out good in the end
