Whoa first week with X3 35i 25L/100km (9.4m/gallon)

Wow did not expect that, I used the x3 primary in the city, it was frosty cold here in quebec around -30 all week computer tell me I did an average of 25L/100km. (9.4m/galon)

Stop / start is always shut off at this temp
I did smooth drive without to much acceleration
I Let the car runs 5-10 min each morning to let it warm up a little bit (extreme cold)

Is it normal ? I drove 2013 x3 35i (bought it used last week)

Thanks !

Firstly, don't rely on the trip computer to give accurate fuel economy readings - its a relative indicator at best. Base fuel economy on fill-ups and distance travelled. And ideally reset the trip computer (both average speed and average fuel economy) each time you fill up or at some other regular interval.

Secondly, when you took delivery did you reset the trip computer?

Thirdly - as with all engines, fuel economy will improve in time.

25 liter / 100km is insane. Maybe the computer is frozen......
I think you should fill up the tank, drive let's say 300 kilometers, and than fill up again and calculate how much fuel you actually used.

I would not advise to let your very cold engine run stationary for 10 minutes (idling). My mechanincs have always told me to let it run for maybe 30 seconds and than slowly drive away, and keep driving slow the first 10 kilometers. Because when just running stationary, the engine would not get enough oil through its system, because the oil is too cold / thick. Warming up the engine should be done by driving slow with low rpm.

Also the extreme fuel consumption could very well be explained by this long period of running stationary. While running stationary a cold engine has a very rich fuel-mix, which might also damage the engine as well as the environment

In extreme cold weather, my car gets about 12 MPG. If you drive all city, 9.2 MPG for a new car is not unusual.

Picked up my new X3 35 yesterday in Kaiserslautern.. Drove back to Italy today.
car had 12 miles on it when it was delivered..
First leg back (Ktown to Freiberg) I got 20.6 MPG.. driving around 80-115 MPH all the way...
Second leg was Freiberg to Milano Italy (through Switzerland) 120 KPH or less the whole way.. Got 26.7 MPG...
Milan to My home with crazy Italian traffic 22.1 MPG

I think that's pretty damn good for a new car right out of the box...

pprevill, you should be getting 11.0-11.5L/100kms.

Reset the trip computer and monitor.

25l/100km is definitely off! I think the root cause of the high figure is that you idle the engine for 10min. During those 10min you are burning fuel but not moving a single cm. Due to that you need more fuel for 100km.

Chicago, IL here and temps are single digits, and below zero. BC reads 15 mpg. Our car has less then 200 miles, not even a week of ownership yet.

Trip computer reset

I have reset the trip computer yesterday,

Here is my stats for today :

25km
19.4l/100km avg
Weather was -10c avg

Less, but still very high, I did not let the car running (thank you for the advise!)
I was in confort mode all day, trffic was not so bad but i have a lot of light and stop to pass....

Odo is @ 75 000 km so it should not be a 'new engine' thing...

Maybe i should report this to dealer....

Thank you all for tour help !

Driven 300 km mainly city from 1/25 to 2/15, sometimes very short trips of say <10km.
Comfort mode, manually calculated
18 mpg imperial, normally better say 19 to 21.
15.7 l per 100km.
