Water pump and T Stat replacement ??? N52T

Just picked up a 12 X3 28i.... N52T engine. 68K on it. Thinking of doing a W\P and T Stat as preventive maintenance. Now I will admit I am a damn good mechanic and have worked on a looooot of cars in my life.

WTF were those BMW engineers thinking when they designed that W\P and T Stat location ??????????? I looked at it today and Im sure I can do it , BUT NOT without inventing a few new curse words !!!!

Someone want to offer me a little assurance that I can do this without losing my mind ?? Granted I do NOT have a lift, but even on a lift it looks difficult !
PLUS, I see my radiator does NOT have a drain plug, yes I can disconnect the lowest hose, but NO drain plug ???
Someone want to let me borrow their lift ???

Let me know, thanks.....

It's a painful DIY job but many have done it, you will find posts if you do search on this forum. I own same year and model car, opted to pay shop to do this work recently as I no longer have suitable workspace, and at age 72 I've lost much interest in extensive DIY work.
The pumps on the N52 motors don't have the short lifespan issue as those on cars with turbo 6 motors.....my recent work was PM, but all was functioning properly on original pump and stat at 130K miles; what prompted me to get this done was failed original radiator, cracked plastic. I'd say you can likely get more miles out of these components.
Good luck!

There is no such thing as a N52 "T"

I assume N52 T means it is the up-dated engine version ?? Or N52TU ??
