Question about climate controls on console

For someone who does not have the cold weater package, what happens to the two buttons used to control the seat heaters? Are the buttons removed/absent? Are they disabled (nonfunctional)? Or are they assigned alternate functionality?

Haven't seen a X3 without the front seat heaters, but recently had a 2011 328i loaner, which has a very similar climate control panel, without the seat heaters. On that car the buttons were present, but were "plain" (no hot seat drawing). The blank buttons moved, but did not light up as they do in a car with seat heaters. No alternate function, just "dummy" push buttons. Suspect it's the same on a X3.

There are no dummy buttons. It appears to be one solid piece with the temp sensor in the middle and a indented line on each side of the sensor. ____________ O ____________

Sounds like a better solution than on the 3 Series, which is overdue for an interior remake anyway. From your clear description, it appears to be a continuation of the "short" indented line on the models with the seat heaters:

Go to bmwusa.com, build your own X3, go to "Packages", click on the steering wheel icon (below the picture) and you should see the picture of what it looks like without the front heated seat option/cold weather package, check the "Cold Weather Package" to see the different. (Click zoom in to get a better look)

Hope this help.
