shifting to sport vs selecting sport

Will moving the shifter to the left give me the performance of sport mode as far as engine and suspension just the same as selecting sport in the drive mode to stiffen the suspension? (car has DHP)

No. It will only change the shift points. It has no effect on throttle response or suspension damping.
