A neat trick (for those that have tne Nav system) - sending your car a map link via e-mail from Google maps which can then be read directly into the Nav system as a destination.

You can also do this from your iPhone using BMW Remote and Google Local Search => Send Destination to Car

That may be the trick is you use itunes, it does NOT embed album artwork, it uses hidden files as you mentioned. I THINK there is a command to make it do it, if not, use another mp3 program that will embed it (as opposed to the hidden directory thing) - that may do the trick.

Album Art

Actuallly, iTunes both embeds artwork and uses hidden directories depending on how it was loaded and stored. I use iTunes to include all my artwork as I described in the Cool little things thread. However, I rip from CD using a specialised program and scan the cover myself. The finished files play with artwork on my iPod (obviously) but also on my home music server (Squeezebox). To check further, I copied a single file onto my Win desktop and it played fine with artwork using both Nero and Win Mediaplayer. However, I also copied it to my Android phone and it didn't seem to pick up any tags let alone the artwork, although the music played OK. Which started me wondering whether the MP3 tags version may be significant or whether extensions are not being recognised. Could just be crap BMW software of course. |

There isn't much chance of BMW's software reading MP3 ID3 tags for artwork because they have failed to read even the most basic ID3 tag: the track number. Hence the bug with playing albums in the wrong order.
I'm not entirely sure what happens when you embed a jpg into an mp3 file using an ID3 tag but I would assume that every file in the album then has a duplicate of the same album artwork embedded in it which will have a slight file size drawback. I haven't tried uploading mp3s with artwork embedded in an ID3 tag but I would be AMAZED if this works. In the interest of science, I will give it a go

Not a reason not to buy the X3 of course, but is a bit of disappointment. My hunch though, as that we'll see that change on most if not all future BMWs... they tend to homogonize controls.

Its is the e-mail address that BMW Assist has on file for you. It should have been set up when you took delivery of the car. If you do not know it, contact BMW Assist and be prepared to prove your identity.

I agree with stlgrl. We moved from some early 90's vehicles to a 2011 x3, so a lot was new. And, while it's now widely available, the keyless entry system is probably my most favorite feature, followed by the heads-up display.
