X5 Eye Socket Bike Rack on an X3?

Has anyone tried and does anyone know if the towing-eye-socket bike rack currently available for the X5, would fit an X3? Seems crazy it doesn't, but possible show-stoppers might be 1. eye socket diameter difference, or maybe a 2. difference in eye-socket spacing??

Seems like a nice rack, if not expensive.

My dilemma as well. It doesn't work due to spacing is too wide. i talked to BMW, and was told there are no current plans to have one for the X3
