rear suspension coil springs

Hi All.
I recently had my car serviced by BMW for a EGR related recall. I was advised by BMW that rear RHS suspension coil spring is broken and I should get it replaced.

I am trying to find part numbers so that I can get it changed by a local garage rather paying 3 times to BMW. I have used real OEM website but for some reason it doesn’t list part number for the springs.

Can some please help find the exact part numbers for LHS and RHS. My car VIN ends with 0T54533

It’s a 2016 BMW X3 xdrive 20d M sport and according to bimmerwork vin decoder it has sports suspension option “226”.

I am assuming I will have to get both left and right springs changed due to wear. Are there any other parts that I should buy as well?

I would like to keep the car same a stock, so I ain’t looking for lowering it in any way.

I am planning to get them from Autodoc, if someone knows a better option to buy them please let me know. PS. I am in UK.

I've been very pleased with my 2016 X3 28d. It now has almost 80K miles and had only two items faii: the left rear wheel bearing and both rear springs. My mechanic showed me the affected damper/spring assemblies and each had broken in the same spot - around the first or second coil from the bottom. Much like the one in the above photo.

I've owned cars since 1966 and this is the first vehicle that broke a spring (let alone both rear springs). I am convinced that this is due to poor heat treatment of springs from a BMW supplier.

Like you, my mechanic (and not the dealer) replaced the entire damper/spring combination with a non-BMW ones from NAPA (as I recall). The replacements cost much less than genuine parts from BMW. Frankly, the BMW originals were not that impressive.

I also have an Audi SQ5. The Audi Q5 forums are full of broken rear spring stories. Usually the cars are around 2018. Must be a German thing.

I just ordered pair of SACHS coil springs, which I believe are same as OEM.

Ahh, it may be too late, but you could consider ordering the whole assembly that has the strut, top plate, and so on. Very easy bolt-on without messing with compressing the spring. And those parts may not be bad to swap while you're in there.
