UK only pet barrier

Hi, I'm new to BMW's and to this forum--John is the name. I have a 2012 X3 35i on order, alleged to be delivered end Nov 2011. I have been trying to get the metal grid pet barrier/dog screen that fits behind the front seats--presumably, this fits into the same points that the cargo divider mesh uses and blocks the otherwise open area above the backs of the front seats.

While the fabric net thingy is dandy, our German Shepherds will simply eat such an item.........

My US parts department is seeing a product, part # 51472211909, but the line item is inactive saying "unavailable-UK only". Has anyone actually dealt with this product and could you comment on the overall aspects of the item? I'd love to get hold of one--anyone know if a UK or Hong Kong dealer will ship to US?

thanks

John

UK only pet barrier

Yes, I have looked at ebay---there is a unit on ebay for $169, but only fits through 2010--either 2011 or 2012 spec'd unit would be fine. I think I'll dig around on UK BMW and see what I find.

any input welcome

John

I doubt the proper dog guard will fit in the slots for the cargo net option that extends to the roof - if thats what you mean? I ordered the pull up (roller blind type) cargo net for use as a dog guard and you only get the roof clips if you order this pull up net. I will post some images later today with a new thread 'V Red Delivered 30 Sep'

Thank you, Tank31, while I'm not clear/you misunderstand (it doesn't matter), you have uncovered an issue with my 2012 X3---although we "ordered" the retractable cargo divider, it does not appear on the order config--of course, that document is the only thing that counts, so we'll tweak our order, even if BMW threatens a delay.

Regarding the pet barrier, I actually found it by going to BMW UK and getting the UK accessory catalog--for some reason this unit is not available in the US...probably because the pet barrier isn't encased in 6" thick padding and doesn't have air bags.

I figure I'll contact either a UK or Hong Kong dealer and see if they'll send one of these things. An extreme solution, but..........

Thanks very much,

Tank raises a valid question - what does the metal grid clip into? The clips that the cargo net that he refers to clip into only exist if you have ordered the correct option. Ordering the net after the fact is useless with nothing to clip it to, which may be the same for your metal grid.

UK only pet barrier

Hi 02420X3 and all,

I sort of missed the point in my panic over our missing retractable net option.

Yes, the big question is how the metal screen attaches--I have an inquiry in to a Hong Kong dealer, where I have friends that could do-the-buy. As seems usual, there is no info listed with the option, so much investigating required. Obviously, this thing has to attach to something.

I had a fabulous screen in a Volvo V70--hinged at the roof of the car, damped with gas cylinders, and had a detent in the up & down positions.

If I can shake-out some info, I'll post it here.

thanks again

John

UK onlt pet barrier

Wow! Gorgeous, expressive dog, and a rather effective promo shot for the varied options featured in the photo.

I'm in the process of fixing my foul-up wwith the Retractable Net option--dealer is reluctant because such a change may bump the build schedule--so am I, but the gadget is critical for us.

Once that is settled, I'll be looking into getting the metal barrier.

Pretty strange that it's not a US option.....the order system actually dumps my Oregon USA dealer into a page that rather sternly warns that the metal dog screen is a UK only item that US dealers are not to order.
will advise

John
