Window/mirror switches

I just purchased a used 2004 x-3. The window and mirror switches on the drivers armrest work only part of the time. The passenger mirror does move down only part of the time when shifting into reverse. Any ideas?

According to my very grumpy but thorough mechanic this is one of the few rather common problems of this vehicle. You probably just have to replace the switch (or whatever this thing is called, as I am not a mechanic ...)

The mirror only dips when the selector switch is on the passenger side.
