In both of my dealings with different dealerships in my order of an X3 35i (still pending, see different thread), the dealership has promised that I can have a hitch receiver installed at the dealership when the car arrives for $1,000. The first order was March 29, 2011 and no one said anything about the hitch receiver being unavailable. That was one of my specific requirements. Not that it matters when I can't seem to get a car built.

Periwinkle, you are having some rotten luck and it sounds like you are dealing with rotten dealers as well

Hitch is also one of my specific requirements, which is why I did not order an X3 after test driving several weeks back (I literally had a checkbook in my pocket and would have done the deal that night). I have confirmed what the dealer told me -- September is the current estimate for the BMW hitch -- and also determined that the only third-party hitch available is from execuhitch. It's a decent unit, and may be the only choice your dealer can offer you in the coming months. Unfortunately, it's not a traditional drawbar hitch like I prefer. I refuse to trade a working tow vehicle for the X3 until a proper hitch is available. It would be a step backward in capability.

Will there be an additional transmission cooler added at the same time with the BMW trailer bracket and reciever?

I doubt it, but since there is no BMW hitch yet, nobody knows.

I ordered the Execuhitch and am waiting for delivery now. About $1000 for the electronic set up, a 1-7/8" ball, a 2" ball, and a receiver adapter for accessory (bike rack). Plan to install it myself if the instruction are clear and the wiring makes sense.

Is there any coding that the dealer needs to do so that the X3 "knows" that it is pulling a trailer?

Hi, as I got my F25 in June and today still waiting for my OEM Hitch I have decided to look around. Found one from

http://www.curtmfg.com/

Have a look if someone find it from another OEM please let me know.

That seems to be the only reasonable option right now, and you can order online for as little as $140. That would be the one I'd get.

Wow, they claim 90min to install!! Probably by them because I am sure you will spend the day to make sure you don't break or scratch anything

It really look like mine.

Frankwin, you are saying "look like mine", have you got yours installed on your 2011 X3?

The design of the hitch look very similar to mine but I bought it from a company that makes custom hitch and they did the installation. More expensive but time is money
