Awaiting X3 20d

Ordered my X3 20d in Jan, should be getting it early May. I used the information in this forum extensively over the past few months so thanks to all the members for their own reviews and discussions as there's more info here than at the local dealers.

Here's what I ordered:
F25 X3 20d with 8spd automatic box
Mineral Silver / Black Nevada leather
Y-spoke style 305 17" wheels
Servotronic stearing / electric towbar / moonroof / anti-dazzle mirrors / Xenon / full pdc / high-beam assist / Hi-fi sound / hands-free with USB

The X3's here come standard with the 8spd auto box and 6.5" iDrive interface (but without NAV). The only two models available is the x20d and x35i (x30d soon to be released).

There's been a bit of 'banter' about the pricing so I thought I'd also give you the SA perspective (exchange rate of US$1 = R6.68):
* X3 x20d (for those in the UK) starts at US$70 360
* X3 x35i (for those in the US) starts at US$90 868

Somewhere between Spartanburg and SA someone makes a lot of money! This is unfortunately what we pay for German cars here (Audi and Merc are the same).

I'll keep you updated on the progress of getting my X3, thanks for keeping me excited for its arrival!

Welcome gsbimmer123. Nice spec and sorry about the price! You've got a comparatively short wait though compared to some.

Do you have to pay a premium for VWs in SA too? I'm only asking out of interest as that's where a lot of them are made

Thanks Pugger, I'll post some pics soon as it arrives.

The car I'm replacing is a 2007 325i, and the 'options bug' bit with that one too. It's sad but to get some of the 'nice' features here we have to pay for them. I'd reckon about 20% the base price of the car needs to be spent on extras. What really sucks is that the US market gets Pro Nav standard and the base car cost of a x35i is less than what we pay for a x20d.

sfax - I've read a good few of your posts. VWs here are also quite pricey. A Golf GTi DSG starts at US$51k which means you could just as easily go buy an Audi A3 2.0T DSG or consider a TT 2.0T (awesome car). All Audi's are imported into SA, I'm not sure if the GTi is locally made.

The 325i R/H drive is made here in SA and exported with a base price of $60k and I'm sure is cheaper overseas. A M3 Coupe DCT is a whopping $133k!

US$51k for a Golf GTI!! Ouch! Most of that difference must be down to tax. Our Scandinavian friends also pay a lot of tax on new cars

The guys in the US only get pro nav with the tech package BTW but generally they do get much more for their money - but no diesels!
