I am picking up my wife's X3 35i today! I bought the Thule Podium 460 and fit kit. We have a Yakima Sidewinder rack that needs to be mounted on Yakima round or Thule square bars. I had wanted the BMW but the Thule looks nice in the box. Yakima doesn't make a solution for our car that will hold the Sidewinder.

Regards,
Bob

I was told that Thule makes the OEM racks and I'm guessing your bike rack attachments are the Aero-type (oval)? I would believe they would but you would need the Thule 460 R Podiums and the one like I have for square bars. There is a fit kit 4023 (I think) that you also need which is the part which clamps onto our rails.

sorry im not sure if i understand what you mean the the "aero-type oval" part. on my 3series i had the oem bmw cross bars and oem bmw bike racks. the bike rack slides into the slot on the cross bars then twist tighten and clamps down to lock. Does Thule have that slot?

Yes. It is the Thule Podium 460 R that you need. My rack needed the older style square bars.

Question: why are you thinking of switching if you already have the OEM base system?

awesome! will look into the thule podium 460R. thanks

the oem base was for my 3series and they do not fit my x3. and as i already have bike racks, so i want to look for a x3 base that will work with the bike racks.

Just remember you need the fit kit too. Ask whichever rack place you call about your bars. I bet you can use those too.

I am not 100% but one of the big online rack stores may know or I would bring a bar to my local bike store and try it in the Thule Podium. My hunch is it will fit.
