Is there a setting in idrive for locking the drivers door only when you move off.
Used to have this setting on my X6, or to lock all doors when moving.

Yep- correct. Changing this appears to have no effect on which doors lock sadly. Tried it a fe times in recent days. Thanks for the thought tho.

Disconnect the battery maybe? A full reboot?

Naturally, it was an idle threat - as soon as I made it all four doors locking again. Seems that having the "relock on non-opening" ticked triggers the failure - leaving it unticked to see if theory right!

So after 10 days of normal function and 36 hours after visit to dealer today 3 door locks failed again. Nothing seems to be recycling them this time. Annoying to say the least. Anybody else have this problem or similar?

Cars have gotten so complex they're full of bugs you used to only see in computer software.
