2014 X3 M Sport hard ride?

Hi everyone. I've been loaned by BMW an X3 M Sport until my new X3 arrives. The ride feels very hard and bumpy, it really joggles your fat bits around on most Road surfaces, is this normal for an M Sport? The new X3 when I finally get it will have adaptive suspension, I really hope this will cure the ride.

Probably the low profile run-flats. Same in mine, but I don't mind because the roads aren't that bad here.

I've owned 2 M sports, a 2011 35i without DHP and now a 2015 with DHP. The 2011 would rattle fillings out over uneven pavement, the 2015 (with DHP) is smooth as butter. I never understood how folks had 20s on this car until I had DHP.

Without wishing to highjack the thread, can anyone with direct experience of DDC/Variable Damper control suggest if it might offer a more comfortable (softer) ride on the standard (non-sport) suspension and the standard fitment high profile tyres - 225x60x17.
I am looking at replacing my existing X3 possibly for the bigger3 litre engine but would also prefer a softer ride than I currently have. So, I am trying to establish if the ‘comfort’ setting with DDC offers a softer ride than I get at present on non "M" suspension; I am not entirely convinced with replies I have had from the dealer and been unable to find an adequate answer in the forums so far.

Hi. I also would be interested in anyone answering this question.

From what I have gathered, any X3, even with M Sport will have the standard suspension. What will change the ride comfort is either the wheels and tires and or DDC. If you don't have DDC and put it into comfort, the ride won't change.

I don't think that's the case as if you spec up an M Sport F25, when you get to the options at the end of the configuration process, it shows 'Sport Suspension' as a selected option and 'M Sport Suspension deletion' as a zero-cost option

I believe the US only gets it's version of standard suspension for non-DHP setups. There is no sport version and the standard suspension in the US is softer than most of the rest of the world gets.

In Europe we get standard and sport versions.

The sport suspension is too hard for most UK roads in my opinion. The next X3 I buy will either have to have adaptive suspension or sport suspension deletion.

I too would love to know the answer to Rich4's question.

I have a new X3 MSport with 19 inch run flats and adaptive suspension and it is very smooth in comfort mode.
Quite unlike the MSport I tried at the dealers before ordering mine which had the standard MSport suspension without adaptive dampers and a very firm and at times harsh ride.
The adaptive suspension transforms the car.
Hope that helps.

I'm currently running the pre-LCI (non DHP, Standard Suspension) with 19" staggered wheels and RFT tyres.
Coming from 17" wheels with Winter non RFT, the ride with the 19" was a lot firmer without being harsh.
I'll be swapping back to my 17" Winter Wheels soon. It will be interesting to compare after the swap.
I noticed that one forum member changed the tyres on his 19" wheels to non RFT to improve the ride.
The 19" 369M's do look very good but I might put them on Ebay after I've gone back to 17".

I'm ok with sport suspension on UK roads....mostly, though before the X3 I had a 335i MSport which was rock hard so the X3 feels fine to me though for many it will be a bit too firm. My LCI should be built now, this will have 19s and adaptive.

My fault, I keep forgetting to look at 'Location' when replying to posts

I test drove a msport with 19's and the sport suspension and when driving it I found it felt ok .. However when riding as a passenger there was a very jittery sensation which was not pleasant at all.

The dealer said most people specced the 18's or deleted the sport suspension if going with the 19's

My current MSport has 18s and sport suspension, I have wondered how much harder the ride would be with 19s. My assumption has been that the difference between 18s and 19s with RFTs would be much less than it would be normal tyres, this though is pure speculation on my part. I won't get to find out with my new X3 as this will have VDC.
